After a tragic injury ended Victoria's 14 years as a police officer, she moved to the coast to recover. Despite two operations, she was left with irreversible damage to her retinas, which leaves her partially blind to this day. In 2007, she retired from the San Jose Police Department and opened a writing boutique in Monterey. Quickly running out of room, she moved her boutique to Carmel, California, where she wrote her heartfelt poems in calligraphy on scrolls she had handmade from scratch. She also created perfumed letters with waxed sealed envelopes and a line of presentation envelopes with bows and lace for her elite clients.
A chance meeting with a socialite changed the course of Victoria's business. The socialite asked, "What would you do if you could do anything?" Victoria quickly replied, "I would have my own magazine specializing in romance and luxury from around the world! Most people think of romance as funny and cheesy, I want to change that and show them it can be upscale and sophisticated."
That night, Victoria began working on the first edition of Hopelessly Romantic International Magazine! "My first magazine was a disaster!", Victoria says. "I had no experience but I knew what I wanted.” An anonymous woman in Carmel was overheard saying, "That magazine is so bad - if I was her I would never show my face around here again!"
Of course that was a challenge to Victoria who spent day and night perfecting the design of her magazine.
It took several editions for Victoria to create the magazine she had always dreamed about!
After sending many copies to Switzerland and France, Victoria decided to travel to Europe to promote her magazine. Her trip to Switzerland confirmed she was on the right track. When she arrived in Switzerland, she was greeted by some fans who loved her magazine. Victoria autographed their copies and was overwhelmed by the excitement of what she had created. A cab driver in Paris had one of her magazines on his dashboard and told Victoria he read a little every night trying to make it last as long as possible.
Before leaving Switzerland, Victoria was asked if there a way she could transfer the magazine to video. “We want to be able to see you and hear about your stories from America,” they said. Well, that is all it took and Victoria began her project to create an international web show! Victoria at last is pleased to be able to say: "It has been three long years of preparation and we are happy to announce the launch of our show in May 2012! And for you diehard magazine fans, we are still publishing it, online and in print, twice a year.”
